Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. He is particularly known for paintings of scenes from Ancient Rome, for which he gained the nickname"the ItalianBouguereau". Artist: Bompiani Subject: People Style: Traditional Product Type: Gallery-Wrapped Canvas Art This ready to hang, gallery-wrapped art piece features girls sitting around a table in dresses. Prominent Colors: Brown, Tan, Black, Grey, Green Bompiani was born inRome. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. By the age of fifteen, he had enrolled at theAccademia di San Lucain Rome, where in 1836 he shared a first prize with fellow student in design,Angelo Valeriani. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. He was remarkably prolific, especially as a painter. By 1839, he was able to win prizes both in sculpture and painting at the Accademia.
