Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting. His artistic process was informed by his study of photography and photographic printing methods, both in the darkroom and on the computer. Ryan received his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design where he studied photography. Ryan uses a hybrid of traditional and modern techniques utilizing drawings, paintings, and computer based illustration tools. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. His work is inspired by nature, advertising design, and New England and Pacific Northwest iconography. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors.
